Andy’s “Top Fives” for 2021

I-Connect Editor’s Pick: Andy’s “Top Fives” for 2021

We’ve been curating our Editors’ Picks for about 18 months now, more or less, and readers have certainly embraced them. In our daily newsletter, the Friday Editor’s Pick column is often one of the most read stories that week.

As a result, we thought it would be fun at the end of the year to take a different approach. This week, I’m posting the five most-read Editor’s Choice articles compiled by Andy Shaughnessy. Sounds like a good way to look back on the year, doesn’t it? So much happened in the last year that I couldn’t believe it once I started looking back.

Andy and I certainly love bringing you these “must read” articles. It is gratifying to see that you too, dear reader, enjoy reading them. So without further ado.

In this episode, Andy said, “Last week has been busy. In case you’ve been on the beach with an umbrella in your hand, in industry news we saw the soft opening of a new laminates plant and more M&A activity in the PCB manufacturers segment. We’ve also published great content from our regular contributors, with articles on how to save money for your business and how to save you time in the design cycle.

This is a great opportunity to look back on this virtual event.

The electronics industry was also on the move. “This week, we bring you a veritable seafood platter of articles and columns on PCB design, fabrication and assembly, starting with a tribute from David Bergman to his father, Dieter Bergman.” Now, if that doesn’t make you want to read on…

In this “episode”, we were all looking forward to the virtual IPC APEX EXPO, and there was a lot going on. Andy reviewed a practical guide for PCBA technologists, and he highlighted an interview with USPAE members about their new consortium dedicated to providing a safe supply chain. Bonus: Joe Fjelstad reviewed The innovatorrs, a technology history book written by Walter Isaacson.

If you remember January, we were so happy to turn the corner of 2020 and looked forward to a new year, hoping that it would bring us better fruits. Andy quoted Chris Farley in “Tommy Boy” after his character fell off a mountain, “What was that?”

Next week, check in as Andy launches into editor Nolan Johnson’s top five picks for the year. What was your top story of the year?
