Financial News announced on October 21 the winners of its 2021 Asset Management Awards.
This year’s Editor’s Choice award went to Yves Perrier in recognition of his work shaping the European asset management industry over more than 30 years in the investment industry, including a decade in the head of Amundi.
Perrier announced in February that he was stepping down as chief executive of Amundi, making way for Valérie Baudson to take the helm.
He was instrumental in forming what became Europe’s largest asset manager after Crédit Agricole and Societe Generale merged their asset management businesses in 2010. He also presided over the introduction on the Amundi stock exchange five years later.
While overseeing the Paris-based fund manager, Perrier earned a reputation as one of Europe’s most successful traders.
Perhaps its most notable transaction was the purchase of Pioneer Investments from UniCredit in 2016 – a landmark €3.5 billion deal that significantly increased Amundi’s footprint and scale of distribution.
Most recently, he was responsible for closing a deal with Bank of China subsidiary BOC Wealth Management in 2019 to set up a joint venture. The French company’s 55% stake meant it was the first combination between two companies where a foreign shareholder held a majority stake in a Chinese asset manager.
In 2020, Perrier oversaw the acquisition of the investment business of Spain’s Banco de Sabadell in a €430 million deal, and just a month before he left management, Amundi announced that it had agreed to acquire Lyxor for 825 million euros.
Following his departure as CEO, Perrier became Chairman of the Board of Amundi, replacing Xavier Musca.
FN asked Perrier to say a few words. Below is a video from Amundi.
